The Scottish pharmacist has revealed that he had bought his own Viagra-style erectile dysfunction medication from GSK from the manufacturer after he became aware of it on the NHS.
“I was surprised to hear it was on the NHS, it has always been a good thing,” said Mr David Murtagh, GP manager at the Croydon Pharmacy.
In a statement, GSK said: “This is a prescription medication prescribed for erectile dysfunction and the medication is available on prescription only.
“The medication has been approved by the NHS for use by men in the UK.”
Mr Murtagh, who also worked at Croydon Pharmacy, said he was unaware that he had bought Viagra-style erectile dysfunction medication.
“It is a prescription medication for erectile dysfunction and the medication is available on prescription only,” he said.
The medication works by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping men achieve and maintain an erection.
However, a spokesperson for GSK, said: “We take the time to review potential side effects and discuss any concerns with a pharmacist.”
Mr Murtagh also said the erectile dysfunction medication should only be taken under medical supervision.
“Erectile dysfunction can have negative psychological, social and sexual, as well as physical causes, such as diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension,” he said.
Mr Murtagh said the medication is not suitable for everyone and should only be used under medical supervision.
He added: “Erectile dysfunction is a very common condition and can affect anyone’s sex life.”
